counselling for emotional wellbeing
We all go through times when life feels like a struggle or we just feel “stuck.” Sometimes we know what’s causing it, and other times it’s more of a sense that something’s not right. Talking to someone from outside can really help you to see things more clearly and shift the way you think about yourself, your relationships and your choices. Once you start noticing what’s been holding you back, it becomes easier to make better decisions and to reclaim a sense of balance and fulfilment in your life.
I will never suggest that I have all the answers to your problems; however as an experienced qualified integrative counsellor, I will offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where we can explore your situation together in order to work out a way forward. My professional background (as an educator and performer) has given me extensive personal experience of people who are facing challenging situations or whose lives are not working out as they’d hoped. I am also mindful of how many of us can appear to be functioning well on the outside whilst inside, it feels far from the truth.
Our emotions are central to who we are, and learning to understand them can bring profound improvements to our quality of life. I work from a person-centred perspective, which means I follow your lead whilst offering empathy, honesty, and acceptance along the way. From here, I draw on different therapeutic approaches to support your unique needs and personal journey.
Our sessions will focus not only on what’s happening in your life outside our sessions but also on the dynamic between us as we work together. Where relevant, we may look at your past to uncover patterns or hidden feelings.
You may have many questions about how it will feel to be in therapy; this is normal. I simply ask you to turn up exactly as you are and we will start from there. There are no rules and every client will bring something unique into the room.
Research consistently shows that the most significant factor in a successful outcome is the relationship with your therapist—sometimes described as the experience of “feeling felt.” This connection matters more than the type of therapy or the specific techniques used.
An integrative counsellor will draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on what you bring to our sessions. This means that I will tailor my support to suit your needs which are as individual as your personality.
Carl Rogers – the founder of person-centred counselling - believed that ‘the client is their own expert’. You know yourself best, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. Using a non-directive and empathic approach, I will support you while you explore what might be getting in the way of you living the life you want to live.
Confidentiality is an essential component in the therapeutic relationship as it allows you to be completely honest with yourself. I take this responsibility seriously and follow the BACP Ethical Framework, which protects your privacy and prioritises ethical practice.
